When working in a standing position all day, it is extremely important to wear the right shoes. Look for shoes that do not change the shape of your foot. These shoes should have a wide toe box that lets you move your toes and should fit your foot properly. Shoes with laces that can be adjusted for a firmer or looser fit are suggested. You should also look for shoes that have arch support to cushion your feet and reduce strain. When it comes to heels, choose shoes that have a firm grip on the heel to prevent instability and soreness. The shoes should not be completely flat, as this can strain the Achilles tendon. However, thin heels or heels higher than approximately two inches are not suggested. Instead, look for shoes that have a low heel with a broad base. Go barefoot – Our feet were not designed to be enclosed for all hours of the day. Try to periodically expose your feet to air.

Eliminate Pain

Foot Exercises – Performing simple exercises, incorporating yoga and doing stretches are beneficial. This will allow increased blood flow to the area and muscles of the foot.

Achilles tendon – Stretching the foot out flat on the floor will relax the calf muscles and tendon. These exercises can be performed almost anywhere. Make sure you add these exercises to your daily regimen.

What Kind of Shoes Should My Child Wear?

Tips for Keeping Children's Feet Healthy

  • Make sure their shoes fit properly
  • Look for any signs of in-toeing or out-toeing
  • Check to see if they have Clubfoot (condition that affects your child’s foot and ankle, twisting the heel and toes inward) which is one of the most common nonmajor birth defects.
  • Lightly cover your baby’s feet (Tight covers may keep your baby from moving their feet freely, and could prevent normal development)
  • Allow your toddler to go shoeless (Shoes can be restricting for a young child’s foot)
  • Cut toenails straight across to avoid ingrown toenails
  • Keep your child’s foot clean and dry
  • Cover cuts and scrapes. Wash any scratches with soap and water and cover them with a bandage until they’ve healed.
